WHY CHOOSE HOUGH ARCHITECTURE

Hough Architecture is a design and client focused RIBA Chartered Practice in Cheshire founded by James Hough in 2015.

We approach each project with rigour to provide our clients with innovative and practical design solutions to provide the optimum design outcome for their long-term wellbeing and happiness; from the smallest detail to the largest form.

Working in collaboration with our clients and the best professionals, we pride ourselves on delivering a high-quality service.

Our architecture grows from a strong sense of place, developing from a passion for a rich local materiality, a love of traditional vernacular forms, a sense of craft, as well as from a buildings’ historical, social and cultural connection.

Our main focus as a practice is on residential and the everyday buildings; we all engage with workplaces to social spaces, listed buildings and new buildings. We are here for those wishing to improve their home, to those wanting beautiful new buildings.

Where do we work

Based in Sandbach, Cheshire, we undertake projects throughout Cheshire, including Knutsford, Wilmslow, Prestbury, Alderley Edge, Bowden and Tarporley. Also Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Shropshire, North Wales and London – with a construction budget over £50K – and Nationwide – with a budget over £250K.

I had a complicated interlinked project involving planning permission, landscaping, new driveway, new garage, an extension and a new kitchen. Hough Architecture helped me through the process from initial consultation through all the stages including planning permission, recommendation of the building firms , garden designer, building regulations to project sign off. The use of the RIBA contract helped with builders invoices with each phase carefully checked. Hough Architecture helped with any questions very promptly, and there was no stress.

James has organised 3 applications one for a summerhouse , one for a heat pump and the lates for a large solar system. On every occasion James has written excellent  Design and access statements , stayed in contact with myself and liased  with planning . And achieved success I highly recommend him

He replaced the old porch with a larger space with downstairs toilet, skylights and work bench and sink and opened it up to the rest of the house. His design was incredible and despit the small size really changed the entire house for the better. His passion for buildings and designs always shows and I am now looking at another project with him

When I first came across James and he attended my house to discuss my thoughts of extensive work on my house he made designs and adjusted as necessary. He dealt with the planning authorities and queries alongside any neighbours' objections. He answered all their questions and found me a good builder and landscapers for what turned out as a long project. James was always quick to respond to any difficulties and on hand for advice. WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

We engaged with James early 2018 as we planned to completely rebuild our property. We had a very aggressive timescale which meant James needed to be creative in his design to help accommodate our needs and requirements. James also liaised exceptionally well with our building contractor which meant the project stayed on course and with very little issue. We wanted to use a local architect so we had him to hand if needed of which he was. He comes highly recommended and would pass his name on to anyone looking to renovate.
